After reading Erica’s blog on how ICT can motivate our students, I have come to realise that using technology in the classroom is not about “fitting it in” to please others, or a fun activity for free time, it is so much more than that. Students who are allowed to use computers to complete school work feel as though they are active in their learning, which is a strong motivation for student’s to complete activities. Tools such as spell check enable students to produce work in high standards and learn how they are spelling things incorrectly. Thus technology should not be taught because it has to be but should be taught to assist other subjects, making them more interesting and creative.

thanks Hayley, I’m glad my blog helped. I completely agree with you about technology being more than a free time activity.

Spot on Hayley! Technology such as computers shouldn’t be used just to fill in time or just because we have to. They should be integrated with other learning activities to benefit students.
